Choosing a healthy breakfast cereal
We all know that choosing a healthy breakfast cereal means avoinding the sugary ones and choosing those with 'reduced sugar' or 'low sugar' in bold on the front of the packet, right? wrong!
Studies have shown that many of the cereals that claim to be low in sugar have a similar calorie count to their sugared counterparts. They replace the sugars with other refined carbohydrates which have little health benefit and also contain the hidden replacement calories.
How to choose a healthy breakfast
- Try to choose a cereal that has 'whole grain' such as shredded wheat
- Rather than adding sugar for sweetness try adding some fresh fruit - strawberries or banana are a good replacement
- Instead of full fat milk opt for the skimmed, semi-skimmed or even soya variety

- The main incgredient should be 'whole grain' or 'whole wheat'
