Bring It On!

Written by: Graham on 13th May 2011

So, it’s my first week back after the 2 weeks holiday and it’s not been too bad actually.  Monday was a hectic day which probably helped.  In the afternoon I had to deliver a 20 micro-teach to a group of my peers as part of my teacher training course.  And although I was a little nervous I received flying colours from both the Tutor and my colleagues which I was very pleased with.

The rest of the week trundled by and I finally caught up with emails and paperwork but more importantly I went swimming again and really enjoyed it!  It was great to be back in the pool with my new goggles (yeah yeah I know, but I treated myself) and my new target to swim half a mile in under 30 minutes.  I have achieved my big target, so now it’s about speed and becoming a faster swimmer.  Plus I am trying to combat the fact I totally lost my drive to swim.

I’m trying to keep up with my weight sessions at home although I must admit I have lost some of my strength; so I have reduced the weights slightly but I am confident that I will return to the normal weights soon.  Eating healthier seems to be easier now I am back at work too.  Less opportunity to eat rubbish I suppose.

I attended Thump Boxing again which I really enjoyed.  After last week’s first session I knew I would ache but my God I was sore, especially my forearms and calves.  This time my friend attended (who I am sure enjoyed it a little too much as she thumped away at me.  I need to have words with her!) and I think a couple from work will be joining too as they seem keen.  The class is made up primarily of women but a few more guys came this week so we chatted and boxed together which was good.  Although it’s exhausting it’s also quite exhilarating thumping away and doing jabs, crosses, hooks and upper-cuts.  Interspersed are plenty of squats, press-ups, star jumps and ab exercises.  It’s a major workout and you feel it by the end.  I am enjoying this infinitely more than Zumba and it’s a change of pace from Pilates.

You can probably tell from my tone that I am feeling better than I did.  Having a break from work and everything around me did wonders.  It really helped recharge me for the coming months as this is a busy period for me at work, although I have no intention of slipping backwards because of the hectic period.  It’s also good that I set myself some little mini targets too as I can now focus on those.

So what happened with the woman at work who was making my life so stressful?  Well lets just say given my tone with her this week she now knows not to pester me so much and that I would no longer be taking any **** from her.  Don’t get me wrong…I was pleasant and civil.  But she knew by what I said and how I said it that the days of making my life hell were over and I would be standing up to her on a constant basis.  Do I feel better for it?  Hell yes!!!

I hope you are all well and enjoyed the many Bank Holiday weekends (there is another soon!) and thank you for your support these last few weeks as I went through a rough patch.  I’m back and God help anyone who messes with me now.

Thump boxing sounds

Thump boxing sounds interesting! It looks like it gives the body a total work out with all those punches and leg work. It's also therapeutic, I guess, as your stress is relieved in every punch.

Thump boxing sounds

Thump boxing sounds intriguing I wonder if a gym around here offers it! Glad that taking some time off helped you to get back on track and it sounds like you are doing great!

Contact details

You could try contacting Thump UK on 01253 392802 or they have a Facebook page which I joined and you could ask through that.

I've never heard of thump

I've never heard of thump boxing. How is this different than regular boxing? Is there maybe more contact with the punches this way? I could really take out my frustrations with that....

Thump

It's more cardio I suppose. You are with a partner and take turns with the gloves and pads and every so often the instructor will shout to do star jumps or squats or burpees or any other combination of exercises. There is running involved and LOTS of legs work too.

It's exhausting but really enjoyable and yes I punch out all my stress and frustrations!

Way To Go!

It sounds like you are doing great in all the aspects you talked about. I especially like it that you stood up to the woman who was pestering you at work.

Thump Boxing sounds like something I would enjoy. I'm going to find out if any place offers it around where I live.

I have been considering

I have been considering trying a cardio-boxing class. It really does seem like a good workout and I really would like to feel stronger in my upper body. It's amazing though how sore you get when changing up your workout routine.

Good to hear that you're back

Good to hear that you're back and confident to stand up to whoever tries to mess with you. Haha...Thump boxing and everything that you spent your time on proved to have been worth it!

I'm really happy about you

I'm really happy about you getting through these things. Nice work keeping the woman at work in check, and good job for doing it civilly!

Boxing is a great thing. It not only helps keep you in shape, but also gets the stress out.

You could have a little plaque made

"I’m back and God help anyone who messes with me now."

You could have a little plaque made with this saying on it to hang on the wall over your desk in your office so people will think twice, as they should!

That reminds how long ago it

That reminds how long ago it was when I attempted to swim half a mile. I want to get back in shape but just can't force myself to do it.

Go Graham! You see how easy

Go Graham! You see how easy it is to put a bully down when you stand up to her? There should be nothing in your way now. I'm really glad to read this.

It's great to hear you

It's great to hear you fighting fit and full of confidence. I knew you could do it! Thump boxing sounds the business and if you're getting more of your friends to join it will be less and less like a workout and more like a party!
