Can smoking lose weight?

Is it true that smoking burns calories and can help lose some weight? I have seen some people in my neighborhood smoke when they were bulky but after a few years they lose weight.

Smoking does not lose weight

Smoking does not lose weight and should never be considered as a weight loss alternative or a pass time of any sort. People who smoke may well substitute food with a cigarrette when they are hungry and that could be an explanation to what you have mentioned but the very well documented health risks should be enough to put anybody off the idea. These people may also lose weight due to one of the many health risks.
