Crash diet safety?

I have never been tempted to participate in wrestling championships because of the extreme weight requirements, to the best of my knowledge crash dieting is quite harmful to your system, but I have friends who have been doing it for years and they are quite healthy, what I'm wondering is, are crash diets dangerous to your health or not?

They are dangerous yes. You are literally starving the body of a significant amount of enrgy and nutrition. They also lead to long term fat GAIN as your body will enter the starvation response and pack on as much fat as it can as soon as you come off the diet.

You mention people doing it for years, this in itself shows its lack of efficiency as if it were an effecitve way of losing fat you wouldn't have to rinse and repeat it for that amount of time. They have falling into the trap of yo-yo dieting caused by the afore mentioned starvation response.

A long term plan of healthy eating is not only better for you internally, it will help you keep the weight off for longer.
