Is detox a good way to jump start losing weight?

Is a detoxifying diet a good way to jump start losing weight after child birth (once you are done breast feeding)? I have a friend who has been trying to lose the baby weight for a year and is really struggling.

The only type of 'diet' I'd ever advise is a healthy one based on whole foods. There is far too much emphasis on detox, low fat, low carbs etc when the only things we should be concentrating on is where does my food come from, how processed is it and what am I getting from it. If you can combine this with knowledge of how many calories you are consuming and how many calories you burn off every day then weight management becomes much simpler and detox is taken care of almost as an after thought.
