Without being able to physically assess your knees, it is virtually impossible for me to say. If high impact activities like running are something you wish to persue, then do seek advive from a GP or physio. If not, low impact activities should reduce the pain. I'd also recommend applying ice packs to your knees post workout to help with recovery.
