Too much cardio?

I am trying to lose weight and my routine right now is 10 minutes on the bike, 40 minutes on the treadmill and then the last 10 minutes on the elliptical. I work out 4 days a week. I had a friend tell me that I should put weights in there somewhere. I am not trying to bulk up, just lose weight?


The use of weights does not

The use of weights does not necessarily mean you will gain muscle and it should be as important in a weight loss plan as your standard cardio. There are 2 reasons for this, the intensity of weight training burns a lot of calories and it will also raise your metabolism aiding further reductions in weight.

It is particularly harder for female trainers to gain muscle as they lack the testosterone levels needed to do this. Male trainers would want to stick to a rep range between 15 to 20 to minimize muscle gain.
